Blue Structure with an Escape Plan
2026 · 30 × 60"
Description
In Blue Structure with an Escape Plan, Kevin stages a confrontation between containment and movement. On the right, a narrow blue vertical form suggests architecture, shelving, windows, circuitry, or a rigid institutional frame. Beside it, a much larger biomorphic body bends, swells, and pours downward in layered passages of white, pale blue, navy, teal, and green. The two structures remain attached, but they do not appear to obey the same logic. The title gives the work its psychological charge: the 'blue structure' can be read as a building, a system, a body, or a set of rules, while the 'escape plan' is less literal. It may be the sweeping central form, the black line curving away from the structure, or simply the refusal of the painting to remain geometrically stable. The pale patterned ground gives the painting an ambient sense of order, making the irregular painted forms feel even more insurgent, while the heavy surface texture prevents the biomorphic mass from reading as merely decorative and gives the work a bodily, accumulated presence.
