The Hat Was Just a Rumor

2026 · 40 × 40"

Description

In The Hat Was Just a Rumor, Kevin constructs a dense bodily form from crimson, burgundy, pink, and chalky white that seems to appear only long enough to resist identification. Thin yellow lines extend outward into a loose architecture of hats, limbs, vessels, and gestures, so that every recognizable feature is immediately contradicted by another. The dark crochet-canvas ground holds the saturated form between emergence and collapse, while the diagrammatic marks behave like nervous instructions or measurements for an unfinished schematic. The title's dry humor turns the image's most legible feature into hearsay, leaving not a portrait of a person, but a portrait of recognition itself, unstable and always slightly out of reach.
